Hats are a basic part of Mr. or Mrs. Potato Head. Nowadays, most hats come with a peg to help keep it in place.
In 1952, George Lerner's first Spud's hat was actually quite small. Sometime around the plastic potato addition, the hat was made bigger, but not Overstuffed! size large. Hats were later given a peg so they would be stable.
